Paws for Patriots was started in 2006 and pairs
visually impaired veterans with professionally
trained guide dogs. Like all of Southeastern Guide
Dogs' visually impaired students, the veterans spend
26 days on campus learning the intricacies of
working with a guide.
the past five years, Paws for Patriots has matched
more than 150 veterans with guide dogs. VFW Post
9272 in Seminole Florida has been an ongoing sponsor
for Southeastern Guide Dogs. The Post has sponsored
two of our four legged friends, Liberty and Justice.
Liberty was not able to complete the training to
become a guide dog, but that didn't stop Liberty
from making an impact in the breeder program, having
puppies that could enter the training program.
At an early age, the puppies are placed in a home
until they are old enough to begin the first stages
of training school. These puppies can be guide dogs,
breeding dogs, and with other training they can help
those that are suffering from PTSD or other
was able to complete the training and is now helping
a veteran by being a faithful companion and guide
dog. Justice went thru a lot of training to be
able to complete the course, he learned to help a
Veteran become more independent.
These Paws for Patriots dogs are heroes, to our
Nations Real Heroes, the Veterans that served this
great country. Seminole VFW Post 9272 is proud
to be a sponsor of this great program that makes a
difference to so many deserving recipients of these
well trained guide dogs. These dogs are truly
man's best friends.
