Paws for Patriots was started in 2006 and pairs visually impaired veterans with professionally trained guide dogs. Like all of Southeastern Guide Dogs' visually impaired students, the veterans spend 26 days on campus learning the intricacies of working with a guide.

In the past five years, Paws for Patriots has matched more than 150 veterans with guide dogs. VFW Post 9272 in Seminole Florida has been an ongoing sponsor for Southeastern Guide Dogs. The Post has sponsored two of our four legged friends, Liberty and Justice.

Liberty was not able to complete the training to become a guide dog, but that didn't stop Liberty from making an impact in the breeder program, having puppies that could enter the training program.

At an early age, the puppies are placed in a home until they are old enough to begin the first stages of training school. These puppies can be guide dogs, breeding dogs, and with other training they can help those that are suffering from PTSD or other injuries.

Justice was able to complete the training and is now helping a veteran by being a faithful companion and guide dog.  Justice went thru a lot of training to be able to complete the course, he learned to help a Veteran become more independent.

These Paws for Patriots dogs are heroes, to our Nations Real Heroes, the Veterans that served this great country.  Seminole VFW Post 9272 is proud to be a sponsor of this great program that makes a difference to so many deserving recipients of these well trained guide dogs.  These dogs are truly man's best friends.
